In short: Reinforcement resting on the ground has no cover beneath it. That is the whole problem, and it takes one bar chair to fix.
Steel needs concrete all around it
Reinforcement works because it is embedded in concrete, which protects it from moisture. Beam reinforcement resting on the ground has concrete above and soil below. We have photographed this on a Pakenham East pour, and it is corrected with chairs in a few minutes.
The vapour barrier again
Stopping short of the slab edge, on a Pakenham East job. The barrier is there to stop ground moisture reaching the slab, and one incomplete edge is a path around all of it.
Frame findings in the same estates
A bottom plate short of its required fixings, triple grips missing at the truss tie down, and sarking lapped against the fall of the roof. That last one is worth understanding - sarking lapped the wrong way directs water into the lap rather than over it, which is precisely the opposite of the intent.
