Capping that holds water instead of shedding it
A flashing shaped the wrong way is a gutter you did not ask for.
In short: Flashings work by geometry. Set flat or reversed, they collect exactly what they were meant to remove.
The principle
Every flashing and capping is shaped so water runs off it and away from the junction it protects.
What we recorded
Capping flashing retaining water along its length, plus a separate junction where flashing had simply not been installed.
The slow failure
Standing water finds the lap, then the fastener, then the substrate behind. Nothing happens quickly, which is why it survives handover.
Related cladding items
Junctions between different cladding types left unsealed, and gaps between fascia and cladding, come from the same lack of attention to the transition.
Pre-handover is the moment
These are visible from ground level and from a drone, and they are ordinary rectification work while the builder is still on site.
